Filling My Mind With Truth

Sometimes I need to completely flood my mind with comfort. To just stop and take a deep breath and fill my mind with reassurance that things are going to be OK. I especially need it when the wind and waves of life have been beating on me and beating on me and trying to strip me of all my hope. It’s the reason I love the scriptures so much. For me, reading those words isn’t just about checking my scripture study time off my To Do list. Instead, it’s about shifting my mind into a whole new perspective. About reminding myself that the Lord is there….that He is real and in charge and cares about me even when life is trying very hard to convince me otherwise.

So years ago I began to create a list on my laptop. I printed out pages of verses that were the most influential in changing my thinking. There was just something incredibly powerful about being able to read through verse after verse and let those truths sink deep into my weary heart and mind. I can’t tell you how many times that list has been my salvation. And I thought I’d post some of my favorites just in case anyone else needs the same kind of comfort today. Or maybe just so I can remember again that He lives. That His grace is there, even if it looks different than I thought it should. And that His love is all I need to keep moving on.

VERSES FROM THE BIBLE:

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness (Isa. 41:10).

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust, my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower (Ps. 18:2).

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Phil. 4:13).

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; . . . God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early (Ps. 46:1-2, 5).

For with God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37).

Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest (Josh. 1:9)

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Heb. 4:16).

And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not (Isa. 58:11).

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord (Ps. 31:23).

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you . . . fear not, nor be dismayed . . . for the Lord will be with you (2 Chr. 20:17).

Is any thing too hard for the Lord? (Gen. 18:14)

I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live (Ps. 116:1-2).

Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed . . .  [for] with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles (2 Chr. 32:7-8).

O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee (Ps. 25:20).

[The Lord] said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me (2 Cor. 12:9).

For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee . . . I will help thee, saith the Lord . . . thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel (Isa. 41:12-13).

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:7).

[W]hat man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matt. 7:9-11)

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart (Ps. 27:14).

Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee (1 Chr. 28:20).

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not . . . cease from yielding fruit (Jer. 17:7-8).

O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me (Dan. 10:19).

Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass (Ps. 37:3-5).

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (Num. 23:19)

Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart (Jer. 29:12-13).

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water (Isa. 41:18).

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour (Isa. 43:1-3).

[Abraham] staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness (Rom. 4:20-22).

Be not afraid, only believe (Mark 5:36).

Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever (Ps. 73:25-26).

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies (Ps. 103:1-5).

But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole (Matt. 9:22).

Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him (1 Cor. 2:9).

  • Beautiful, Jaci! Thanks for sharing this treasure trove of back-to-back power! ❤️ I have had so many days like you have described…days when I can’t see or feel my Heavenly Father It Savior, but I still know they are at my side…so I keep reaching for Them and Their light. Scripture, coupled with prayer, is the most potent way I know to do this. Thanks again for sharing this.
