Faith Over Fear: Learning to Trust in Christ When We’re Afraid

Faith over fear. It’s certainly a nice idea to contemplate. But 2020 has given us many reasons to throw that sentiment right out the window. It’s not just all the COVID-19 drama . . . it’s the economic and political instability, the looting and rioting, the churches and schools shutting down. Even out-of-control wildfires, earthquakes, and hurricanes seem to be dominating the news.

Needless to say, this year has obliterated all traces of our “normal” life. In its place, there’s enough chaos, insecurity, and worries to occupy our brain full-time.

In short, right now it seems impossible to live in peace.

But that’s not the kind of life our Savior expects from His disciples.

“Peace I leave with you,” He said, “my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).

The sentiment is both encouraging and hopeful. But how is such a thing possible in the midst of this intense 2020 storm? We need this verse to be much more than an appealing idea–we need the Lord’s words to jump off the page and actually come true in our everyday lives.

But how do we make His peace a reality?

I created my 3-part podcast series on fear to address that very question. We’ll take our text from Mark chapter 4 and other key passages that will outline exactly how we can get there. As we watch Jesus sleep on a ship through a raging storm, we’ll learn more about finding calm in chaos and rest in the midst of what may feel like incredibly scary circumstances.

Join me in these 3 episodes as we talk about what it actually looks like to anchor our lives in the mind-soothing, affliction-swallowing peace of Christ.
