Wow, I thought December was busy, but January has really been a whirlwind around here. I wanted to blog a lot more, but such is life. Because this is the month where everyone is trying to get in shape, my job as a Health Coach has picked up quite a bit. I’ve been teaching some classes on Emotional Eating and Sugar Addiction at our office, so that’s been really fun. And I’m also about to finish my first 3-week cleanse. The chiropractor I work for specializes in detoxing and cleansing the body, and he wanted me to experience the same program we use for our patients, so January seemed like a good time to try it.
I’ll be honest – I’ve always had reservations about cleansing. It just felt like it would be awful and I’d be starving and miserable the whole time. But I actually ended up loving it. It wasn’t a juice cleanse – you still eat food but you take out grains, dairy, and refined sugar and add some herbal supplementation to help the body detox. If you’d like to try it, I did the Standard Process Purification Program, but I also found Dr. Mark Hyman’s Blood Sugar Solution in my library and it’s very similar. It’s only 10 days, though, so I’d extend it to 3 weeks to see more dramatic results. And Dr. Hyman includes an emphasis on detoxing your life (not just your body) which I really like.
So here are my results: I’ve already lost 9 pounds (and my body has been pretty stubborn about releasing weight the past few years!). But what’s even cooler is that my recurring heartburn completely disappeared, my digestion quieted down immediately, my menstrual cycle regulated, and I’ve had a ton of energy. So I’m definitely a believer in cleansing after this experience. It reminded me of the scripture in D&C 42:43 that says those who are sick “shall be nourished with all tenderness, with herbs and mild food.” I love how the Lord has created His own system to nourish a body that is struggling (no matter what health issues you may be strugging with). Cutting out inflammatory foods and adding herbal supplementation really had an amazing impact on my body. And now that my cleanse is ending, I want to be very careful about what I add back into my diet. I feel too clean inside right now – I don’t want to lose that feeling. Anyway, I just wanted to share in case anyone else has hit a plateau or needs a little jumpstart in their own health and wellness journey. The Lord really does know what He’s doing when He teaches us how to care for our physical body. 🙂
Just for fun, here’s a little pic of Lexi and I (Greg was out of town). It was a nice quiet Sunday dinner with my baby who graduates in a few months. Trying to soak up time with her while I can! Love you Lex!
